Closed
Today I closed up my studio in Milna for the season. Only a daub or two of paint a week this time. Left Portrait of a Lady in this unfinished state.

My Garden
As I prepare to leave, I inventory my garden. Some plants were there already from previous years, some Julia and I dug up in the wild and transplanted, some Tim and I, one Marius and I. It's hard telling which will survive the coming heat. The pink sorrel for sure. Julia laughs at me because I lavish such attention on a couple square meters of soil. But I love it! Here's the list as I leave, in no particular order.
Cuckoo pint
Thyme
Lavendar
Bird of Paradise (one I may regret)
Prickly pear
Love in a Mist (dont you love it?!)
Beauties of the Night
Pink sorrel
Mint
Anemone
A lemon scented bush
Blue periwinkle
Asphodel
White pimpernel
Tim, what was that other white clustered flower again?
Rosemary
2 kinds of succulent from Vidova Gora mountain
Fig
Peach
Papyrus
Geranium
Red trumpet vine
Rusty back
Capers

Ha!
Toni Ann Rust, of our neighboring town back home and of the Edison Eye gallery, is on Šolta, the neighboring island that I see each morning when I do my first on rising gaze out the window. Maybe a half mile away but a whole days ferry travelling. She is reconnecting with her Croatian heritage. Here's a great photo with a Šolta relation connected by marriage.

Tim's real-life poem of the day
What?
No Croatian cigarettes? /
Sighing and muttering /
I reluctantly jab my finger /
toward the French pack.

Notes Thursday
Today, Tim, Slavko and I -- with generous help from Spencer back home -- put our heads together to solve a pesky virus problem on Slavkos laptop. Afterwards, Nada makes us a lovely meal. Tim and I walk past my favorite prickly pear patch and find something I have been looking and looking for -- Love in a Mist, the blue flower in the photo.

John Wakes Out of Balance
7 am, Wednesday, 5/11/2016
Workmen's shouts.
Hammers on steel, on stone.
Grinding of rude machines.
In the soiled air,
Old Lukrica's orange blossoms
Fall into flame.

John's Poem for Saturday, 5/6
Today, Basho climbs boulders /
To lonely bolted doors --
My laundry dries in the sun.

John's Poem, In the Sun, Atop Illyrian Hillfort Gnjilac, Friday, May 6
We stumble about Gnjilac,/
Staggering up tumulus,/
Pushing through prickly juniper,/
Hoping for the unequivocal artifact,/
But would settle for/
One more vowel.

Hoping for the unequivocal artifact,/
But would settle for/

Red-tiled roofs/
On the distant hill/

Trying to focus.
