Hello! and sorry for the communication gap!!!

We had a day off yesterday so I took a boat trip to an Orangutan reserve on an island on the Rungan River nearby. We started off in a village on the river and ended up in Palangkaraya, the capitol of central Kalimantan. Later in the day I visited two nearby social projects that Subud is doing – YUM is the umbrella organization and their largest funder is the Australian gov’t’s aid program (similar to USAID in the US).

Here's some photos . . .

Backyard: Ann Arbor

For Melanie, from Chaz

I miss you dearly
My heart is sad & lonely
I await your return quietly

The roses & the lilies
Sit quietly for you waiting
For you to bloom for you
When you arrive
In the morning

The delphiniums & hostas
Are ready to burst with flower
On the night of your return
On the night you are home

I know I haven't always been right
For you and I know life could have
Been different with some prince with
Lots of money and a big boat
Floating on the waves

I am back to working hard to make
That boat with me as the prince
But until then I sit alone tonight and
Do my best to remember the sound of
Your voice and remember the quirk
Of your smile and
Remember the last time I saw you

Arrived in Indonesia

Im catching up on emails on the plane with this handy dandy plug in and just sticking this in the outbox.(Got a lot done.) The food was the worst airplane food Ive ever eaten. But theres an empty seat next to me, except the guy in the aisle seat is constantly jumping up and down and jiggling the seat (he's on his way to the Philippines, probably to visit family).

Okay, now it's Wednesday, I've (over)slept. The plane from Singapore to Jakarta was empty. The taxi was around $32 to get here last night; a good time to arrive, sailed right through everything, customs, traffic, etc., Rochana wanted to talk all night...(that was okay). . .It's hot and humid. We'll have gado-gado for dinner made by the maid, she's been with Josephine for I understand a couple decades .  . .

Love,
Julia

Fwd: from Sam & Sally

Dear John,
We're on the EuroStar, heading for London from Paris.
And, believe it or not,we're actually in the tunnel
going under the English Channel! How weird is that?
All those shipwrecks! The idea of that much water
above us is more than a bit strange.

Paris was nice enough. We're tired of traveling,
though, and we miss the quiet of Greece.
Too many people around us. Too much noise. We're
actually ready to be home--or back on Patmos.

Tim: Just a View Out the Window

Tim's view from his hotel at the Society for Scholarly Publishing Convention last week in Boston.  He was a presenter on such topics as augmented reality and mobile publishing.

One of his successes -- Cell Journal's current issue features a special focus on "...PDFs with multimedia online by introducing 2D "Quick Response" barcodes. Scan a code with your smart phone . . ."

Their cover is a result of Tim's promotion of this technology . . .

Eliot Says: Running the River

Eliot says:  A 3 day river trip on the Wynoochee with 7 guys (1 professional chef), lots of beers and a herd of 80ish elk was just what the doctor ordered!  Didn't get the memo on the proper hat to bring, but I still got "not bad" navigating the MANY rapids.
