Aural Stew

We got home about midnight.  After the incessant aural assault of Puebla, Julia said "It's so quiet here that my ears are ringing."

Tonight in Puebla

Rolling thunder, sheets of lightning, sky cracking, and a hard driving rain.  I am drinking a Heineken in our hotel room, consulting the map and checking off the attractions that I have seen and want to see with Tim and Julia,  and watching the rain beat against the monastery windows.  Beneath our window is a pedestrian zone and people are yelling.  Car horns sound around the corner. And somewhere out in all that is Julia.

Cigars!

I purchased a nice Coronita from this cigar maker a couple of blocks from our hotel.  (Nicely enough it did not have the horrific photos of lung disease etc. found on smokes in stores.)

Pulque

After wandering city streets in the sun, I stumble upon and into a Pulqueria for a drink of the pre-Hispanic beverage.  Naturally fermented from manguey-agave and low in alcohol.  Nonetheless I found myself possessed of the strangest visions afterward!

Hotel Colonial de Puebla

Built in 1600s by Jesuits as a monestary.  Our room is the center door, upper level.  And the view from our rooftop deck.

Slavko Writes

I've had two accidents in my life: the car accident and Diego Rivera!" - says Frida Kahlo!

"When is John coming?" a 12 years old asks me the other day.
"Don't know, maybe in September. Wait a moment, how do you know John?"
"I know him, sleeping under your fig tree, and chewing on the grass stems!"
