Owl hooting gently in the wood. Nothing answers though. I am painting, late warm afternoon between rains.

Our Rose of Sharon
. . .did very well this year in spite of the nitrogen-robbing raw wood shavings I ignorantly piled around it this spring. Remember when?

June 15: Padilla Bay Low Tide
Now this is a low tide. I think you could walk from Bayview State Park across Padilla Bay to the March's Point oil refineries near Anacortes.

Our neighbor "HANK" (1943 - 2010)
Henry L. Clark "Hank", age 66, a long time resident of Alger, passed away in Lake Havasu City, AZ, on February 12, 2010.
He was born to Chester I. and Ivy (Taplin) Clark on March 13, 1943 in Downsville, Wisconsin.
Hank was a log truck driver for Bob Hillier, enjoyed woodworking and camping and having just retired, he became a snowbird in Arizona.

Skagit Birding 2009

Thursday, Feb. 12, we went birding with Paul Woodcock,
Audubon Master Birder. The area around Edison was
especially rich . . . another world with the Skagit flats,
big sky, snowy mountains in the background, and eagles,
hawks, herons, falcons, ducks, swans . . .

Two eagles with their nest . . .
(We saw many, many eagles of all ages)
Likewise, quite a number of blue heron

Trumpeter swans, of course . . .

And a huge whirring cloud of widgin . . .

. . . flocks of snow geese, teal, and Harrier hawks, kestrel falcons, spooner ducks, Mallard ducks, ruff legged hawks . . .

Croatian Dream
As I stepped from the roof of my cottage one morning I saw my neighbors with packs on their backs and staffs in their hands hurrying off as if to some great adventure. Wait I cried, remember that one place is - more or less - as good as another.
Later that day a few villagers returned.
Was it worth it, I asked?
Yes, each replied, it is.

Was it worth it, I asked?
Yes, each replied, it is.

Dream
You turn your head and
start to wave, when
a hole opens in the floor
and you fall in!
She pauses, her arm half-raised,
and frowns, looking down
that long, long hallway.
Who or what on earth
was she looking for?
start to wave, when
a hole opens in the floor
and you fall in!
She pauses, her arm half-raised,
and frowns, looking down
that long, long hallway.
Who or what on earth
was she looking for?
